Jhay Colis: Marked For Life
Tattoos will indeed be a part of the subculture that we know. It is your defining mark, celebrates your individuality and makes a statement even before you say a word.
Artists like Jhay Colis are bringing this form of artistry to the forefront even further and with Macbeth supporting artists like him, the future of local skin art is looking bright.
We recently caught up with him to hear what he as to say on his chosen passion and his recent Uprising experience...
When did you start tattooing? A little history please?

I started way back 2009 through a 1 year apprenticeship with Randy Buenaventura and another one with Bong Chan. Everything rolled over from there. They convinced me next to apply at 55 Tinta and that’s when my career started to progress from 2012. Recently I decided to put up my Jhay Colis Tattoo shop and it’s definitely picking up.
What is your specialty in tattooing?

I can’t really say I have a particular specialty as I am flexible with my tattooing style. It all depends on the client too so you have to be versatile. I enjoy doing lineworks, colored, neo trad and black and gray portraits as well.
Cite your latest Macbeth experience tattooing people in Uprising. What can you say?

I was really overwhelmed with the number of people who had the Macbeth logo inked on their skin. The support was really there and the music served as a nice soundtrack for the event.
Can you say something about Macbeth? How do they support you guys?

My Macbeth family is awesome. They are watching my every step as a tattoo arist. They are with me in every event I participate in. Macbeth is love.
Any message for your supporters?
Macbeth all the way. Support your local artist. Do what you love.
